Peacemaker (1988) 1-4
He loves peace so much he is wiling to fight for it
Dated: JANUARY-APRIL 1988
Story & Art: Kupperberg, Todd Smith, Pablo Marcos
He love's peace so much he wants you to buy this book!!!!
The charlton's twisted pacifist returns in this dc revamp exploring the psychological ramifications of being raised by nazi's and effectively killing terrorists who insist on attacking the free world!!!! Not for the faint of heart!!!!
"At DC there was no compunction about exploiting the inherent illogic of Peacemaker's stance as the man who loves peach so much he's willing to fight for it. Smith is portrayed as a man diving over the edge on a regular basis, tormented by the ghost of his Nazi faher, yet still somehow able to function effectively as a vigilante. It's not outstanding, but there's enough action and ideas to see out four issues. He later becomes part of Checkmate."--The 2003 Slings & Arrows Comic Guide
"Christopher Smith was born Christopher Schmidt, son of Nazi war criminal Wolfgang Schmidt. Chris’ father had been the enthusiastic commandant of the Schlasa concentration camp. Although Wolfgang Schmidt escaped prosecution at the end of the war, his crimes were eventually revealed. In desperation, and in the presence of young Christopher, Wolfgang Schmidt took his own life.
Christopher grew up as a troubled child, intelligent, but possessed by an inner rage. When grown, he enlisted in the military and fought in the Viet Nam war. In the midst of the tour, Christopher seemed to crack and opened fire on a village of unarmed Vietnamese civilians. He was sentenced to life in prison for his crimes, but was recruited later as part of a “Peacemaker” program to fight terrorists. Obsessed with his new mission, he sees it as a way of atoning for his, and his father’s crimes. But all the same, he’s giving a new meaning to the term, “loose cannon.” - Comicbase
