Colonel NICHOLAS JOSEPH "NICK" FURY, created by Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee, first appeared in SGT. FURY AND HIS HOWLING COMMANDOS #1 (May 1963), a World War II combat series that portrayed the cigar-chomping man as leader of an elite U.S. Army unit. The modern-day character, initially a CIA agent, debuted a few months later in FANTASTIC FOUR #21 (Dec. 1963). In STRANGE TALES #135 (Aug. 1965), the character was transformed into a James Bond-like spy and leading agent of the fictional espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D.. From 1968, here is the first issue of the secret agent's exploits in his own title!

Acclaimed visionary artist JIM STERANKO not only wrote and pencilled NICK FURY, AGENT OF S.H.I.E.L.D. #1, but COLORED it as well! In 'Who Is Scorpio?', Steranko gives us a wild ride through several intersecting subplots, all dealing with the mysterious presence, and evil interference of someone or some Thing named SCORPIO. The first three pages are a silent display of FURY sneaking into an island fortress . . before being shot in the back! And it gets progressively more harrowing from there!

This copy is great-looking and solid in every way -- a strong binding, supple pages, minimal toning, and great color for a 53-year-old comic! No real flaws that we can see! - no tears, creases, pieces missing or rough edges!. We agree with the auctioneer from whom this was obtained - it's a solid 9.0 VF/NM.
