The character of Marc Spector/MOON KNIGHT first appeared in WEREWOLF BY NIGHT #32 in 1975, the creation of writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin. He made numerous appearances around the MARVEL stables before getting this - the first issue of his very own title - in late 1980.

Doug Moench writes and Bill Sienkiewicz illustrates (in his very best Neal Adams-homage style) this MOON KNIGHT #1, which provides a fast-moving origin story, for a character, who at the time, was characterized as sort of a MARVEL rip-off of BATMAN. But there was a lot of deep psychological/mystical underpinnings to this character that set him apart.

In Africa, Marc Spector, a mercenary on the wrong side of the law, witnesses his leader, the vicious 'Bushman' murder an archaeologist, and against orders, saves the archaeologist's daughter. But an angry Bushman banishes him to the desert to die. However, he is discovered by itinerant Arabs and is miraculously brought back to life, seemingly by the spirit of the ancient Egyptian moon god Khonshu. Imbued with special healing powers, and the ability to inhabit multiple identities, MOON KNIGHT takes his campaign for justice back to the USA and attempts to settle the score with the evil Bushman.

This is a great copy of this key book, with no faults or blemishes that we can see! Well, maybe some minor toning due to the quality of the newsprint being used for comics in 1980! A true 8.0 VF rating for a 42-year old comic!
