Item Description
Here's a glimpse back to the early 1970s and the early days of Marvel's best-known 'Tryout Title': MARVEL SPOTLIGHT!In the Fall of 1971 Stan Lee and Roy Thomas both thought it would be great to re-introduce a Western comic into their line-up, but they needed an inexpensive way to test fan reaction and the viability of an ongoing title. They dreamed up MARVEL SPOTLIGHT, and kicked it off with the mysterious Old West hero, RED WOLF. Soon after, Roy Thomas shifted into a higher gear and presented WEREWOLF BY NIGHT, with the able assistance of new and exciting artist Mike Ploog and writer Gerry Conway!
After WEREWOLF got its own title, next up on the tryout spot was GHOST RIDER - another creation of Thomas and Ploog's , and eventually, the longest running series that was birthed in MARVEL SPOTLIGHT.
Johnny Blaze/GHOST RIDER makes his fifth appearance here in "The Snakes Crawl at Night!", written by Gary Friedrich, with art by Tom Sutton and Chic Stone. The story resumes from the previous issue, with GHOST RIDER nearly dying from battling the kidnapper of his girlfriend, and a frenzied Apach tribe! He is given another chance at life and disrupts the ceremony meant to make his girlfriend Roxanne the Bride of the Serpent God!
In "The Coming of Witch-Woman!", again by Friedrich and Sutton, GHOST RIDER faces another threat - this time from the daughter of the Snake Cult chieftain, who turns out to be the offspring of SATAN!
GHOST RIDER got his own title in September 1973, and continued through issue #81 in June 1983.
These are solid 50-year old copies with strong bindings, supple pages and bright color - with very little toning. They can easily be graded at 8.0 VF . . for which Overstreet suggests an aggregate price of $84!. However, we say just $36 . . and combined with our L•O•W shipping, it's a heck of a deal!! - by far the most affordable pair of these issues here on HipComic!
And don't forget - any other purchases on the same order SHIP FOR FREE!
