Here's a glimpse back to the early 1970s and the early days of Marvel's best-known 'Tryout Title': MARVEL SPOTLIGHT!

In the Fall of 1971 Stan Lee and Roy Thomas both thought it would be great to re-introduce a Western comic into their line-up, but they needed an inexpensive way to test fan reaction and the viability of an ongoing title. They dreamed up MARVEL SPOTLIGHT, and kicked it off with the mysterious Old West hero, RED WOLF. Soon after, Roy Thomas shifted into a higher gear and presented WEREWOLF BY NIGHT, with the able assistance of new and exciting artist Mike Ploog and writer Gerry Conway!

After WEREWOLF got its own title, next up on the tryout spot was GHOST RIDER - another creation of Thomas and Ploog's , and eventually, the longest running series that was birthed in MARVEL SPOTLIGHT. 

Johnny Blaze/GHOST RIDER makes his third appearance here in "Die, Die, My Daughter!", written by Gary Friedrich. 

Johnny's nemesis, Curly, has kidnapped GHOST RIDER's girlfriend Roxanne and attempts to sacrifice her to Satan, who stops Curly, telling him that he will have to sacrifice Roxanne at a Satanic church, and so he leaves Madison Square Gardens with Roxanne in his arms.

Meanwhile, GHOST RIDER is chased by cops, manages to escape them without incident, and decides to rest in a graveyard. While at the Satanic church, Curly turns Roxanne over to Satan's followers in preparation of the sacrifice to their master. The next morning Johnny wakes up and returns to the Gardens to find that Roxanne is nowhere to be found. Learning that she was last seen with Curly, Johnny waits until night to seek him out as GHOST RIDER.

Arriving just in time to stop Curly before he can sacrifice Roxanne, Johnny sees Satan transform Curly and ordering him to kill GHOST RIDER!

Wondeful artwork by Mike Ploog from early in his career!  After 6 appearances here in MARVEL SPOTLIGHT, GHOST RIDER got his own title in September 1973 and continued to issue #81 in June 1983.

This is a solid 50-year old copy with a strong binding, supple pages and bright color - with very little toning.  This can easily be graded at 8.0 VF . .  for which Overstreet suggests a price of $54.  We say just $45 . . and combined with our L•O•W shipping, it's a heck of a deal!!
