Item Description
Here's a glimpse back to the early 1970s and the early days of Marvel's best-known 'Tryout Title': MARVEL SPOTLIGHT!In the Fall of 1971 Stan Lee and Roy Thomas both thought it would be great to re-introduce a Western comic into their line-up, but they needed an inexpensive way to test fan reaction and the viability of an ongoing title. They dreamed up MARVEL SPOTLIGHT, and kicked it off with the mysterious Old West hero, RED WOLF. Soon after, Roy Thomas shifted into a higher gear and presented WEREWOLF BY NIGHT, with the able assistance of new and exciting artist Mike Ploog and writer Gerry Conway!
Here in MARVEL SPOTLIGHT #2 - with a cover pencilled by Neal Adams - you get the longer-than-normal tale "Night of Full Moon -- Night of Terror!" where we are introduced to young Jack Russell on his 18th birthday and the onset of the transformations that will change his life forever - he learns that the Transylvanian baron to whom his mother was wed years ago, was a true Werewolf, and has passed this gene down to Jack. This debut tale of WEREWOLF BY NIGHT shows the first three nights of Jack becoming a Werewolf and the horror and misery it causes!
WEREWOLF BY NIGHT got its own title after three appearances in MARVEL SPOTLIGHT and ran for 43 issues until 1977! And this Fall - 51 years after its debut - WEREWOLF BY NIGHT gets its own series on DISNEY+!
Also in this issue you get a Golden Age reprint from VENUS #16 (1951) - the tale "Where Gargoyles Dwell" by VENUS' creator, Golden Age great, and the creator of THE SUB-MARINER, Bill Everett! VENUS is the living human reincarnation of the Roman Goddess of Love, and in this story she battles gargoyles that come to life on the hidden 13th floor of a skyscraper!
This is a solid 50-year old copy with a strong binding, supple pages and bright color - with very little toning. It's flat, tight, and near-pristine! We'll very conservatively grade it an 8.0 FN . . for which Overstreet suggests a price of $286.00. We say $250 . . and we'll throw in FREE SHIPPING to sweeten the deal!!
Sound good? Be sure to grab it before the next Full Moon!
