Marvel Premiere was an anthology series that in reality was a tryout book, intended to determine if a character or concept could attract enough readers to justify launching their own series, though in its later years it was also often used as a dumping ground for stories which could not be published elsewhere. It ran for 61 issues from April 1972 to August 1981. Here is the second issue.

Roy Thomas and Gil Kane presented 'The Power of WARLOCK' as the first character tryout in this new series, which followed on the heels of Marvel Spotlight (another 'tryout' anthology). In "The Hounds of Helios!", the story continues from the previous issue as Adam loses his memory when he falls to Counter-Earth (which orbits on the opposite side of the sun from our Earth). The Man-Beast sends Rhodan and the Hounds of Helios to kill him. It doesn't work!

Right after this issue, WARLOCK got his own title . . which ran for all of 8 issues!

Roy Thomas creates a quasi-religious saga, and Gil Kane adeptly delineates the Beast-Men and the other imaginative characters!

There is a 4 page back-up story reprinting an outing of The YELLOW CLAW from Jack Kirby's work of the 1950s!
