MARVEL COMICS SUPER SPECIAL was a 41-issue series of one-shot comic-magazines published by Marvel Comics from 1977 to 1986. They were cover-priced $1.50 to $2.50, at the time regular color comics were priced 30 cents to 60 cents.  Issues #11 to #13 furthered the epic saga of Doug Moench's 'WEIRDWORLD' stories that had appeared in MARVEL SUPER ACTION and MARVEL PREMIERE in 1977 and 1978, with art by Mike Ploog.

Moench's script was published as a 106-page story illustrated by penciler John Buscema, inker Rudy Nebres, and airbrush colorist Peter Ledger as the three-part "WARRIORS OF THE SHADOW REALM" .  It recounts the further adventures of elves Tyndall and Velanna, both from the floating ring-shaped island of Klarn, and an irascible dwarf dubbed Mud-Butt because he tended to land on his backside in a quarrel.

"In the Fantasy Tradition of Tolkien", as the cover proclaims, the elves are drawn into a quest to return five mystical gems to their rightful owner and save their homeland from destruction, and along the way encounter wizards, sorcerers, warriors, monsters, and fantasy creatures that both help and hinder their journey.

The three-part saga fills the 174 pages of these three issues and includes not only John Buscema's incredible artwork in beautiful air-brushed lushness, but several eye-popping three-page foldouts, posters, interviews, maps and a gallery of Buscema's character designs!  Scans just can't capture the lavish and elaborate visuals in this epic trilogy!
