In this series from Image Comics, creator Matt Wagner (Grendel) explores his personal perspective on the heroic archetype in comics, while weaving aspects of mythology and fantasy into the mix. His characters are down-to-earth regular people, who just happen to possess supernatural abilities. In particular, Kevin Matchstick is a latter-day King Arthur. When he grasps his Excalibur, a glowing baseball bat, he gains the agility and dexterity of a supreme athlete.Matchstick is accompanied on his travels by compatriots Joe Phat, the reincarnation of the Iroquois chief, Hiawatha, and a Hercules metaphor, Kirby Hero, whose name is a respectful reference to the legendary artist, Jack Kirby.' - ComicBase Atlas Archive Edition
