STEVE DITKO, the creator and main artist for Spider-Man comics since 1962, left his employ at Marvel Comics right after finishing drawing this issue!

His swan song - a 20-page story called "Just a Guy Named Joe" - is about an average guy named Joe Smith, who fails at being a fighter and tries his hand at acting. Dressed up as a robotic monster, he gets zapped with electricity and chemicals which make him go on a violent spree against those who doubted his abilities. Meanwhile, Norman Osborn puts a price on Spidey's head and our hero is plagued with goons trying to bump him off. •• Peter Parker narrowly misses meeting Mary Jane Watson on page 10! ••

This is a good-looking, supple and clean copy of SPIDER-MAN #38, with only a cover date stamp and a small hand-written word at the top of the first page to reduce it to a 5.0 VG/FN from something a bit higher. Even so, Overstreet prices this at $56 . . . but we think $40 is much more reasonable - even as this issue marks the end of creator STEVE DITKO with his most famous character! (And our mere $2 shipping fee is another good reason to add this to your collection!)
