From 1952 all the way to 1998 - 46 years - a consortium of electric power companies across the U.S would contract to publish a small 5" x 7" color comic promoting safe ways to fly kites and avoid power lines! From the beginning, KITE FUN BOOKs licensed popular cartoon and TV characters to have kite-flying adventures, along with offering safety tips, and the comics were produced through the DELL COMICS offices, printed with the logos of various local Electricity Providers across the country.

Here is the 1969 version of the KITE FUN AND SAFETY BOOK, starring Hanna-Barbera's DASTARDLY and MUTTLEY ( who at the time were the stars of the Saturday Morning series 'Dastardly and Muttley and their Flying Machines') and bearing the imprint of REDDY KILOWATT and the Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Company.

In its 16 pages itLE PIGEON from delivering a message, and crashing their plane, then trying to use a young boy's kite to send a message of help. But they blunder into several mishaps, learning about things NOT to do with a kite!

There are also a few pages of activities and games.

This is a very nice copy of KITE FUN BOOK 1969 that rates an 8.0 VF for one of these delicate little hand-outs. The front 'cover' has two tiny 1/8" tears along the right edge. And this variant from Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric is particularly rare. Overstreet values this issue, in this grade at $20. We're willing to let it fly for a mere $14!
