Item Description

Marvel's KA-ZAR started out reminiscent of both Tarzan and of writer-artist Joe Kubert's 1950s caveman character, TOR. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in X-MEN #10 (March 1965), he lived in the dinosaur-populated Savage Land, which was hidden beneath Antarctica by extraterrestrials. 

Originally written as a primitive and belligerent savage who spoke in broken English, KA-ZAR later became more articulate and civilized, although he retained a certain degree of distrust toward civilization and was generally wary of outside visitors to the Savage Land. Kevin Plunder refers to himself as the "Lord of the Savage Land," a phrase by which he has come to be known.  KA-ZAR's first solo story was published in Marvel Super-Heroes #19 from 1969.  The ewo issues offered here are his first 4th and 5th appearances of the fourth incarnation of the KA-ZAR title of 1997, written by Mark Waid and drawn by Andy Kubert.

The artwork is terrific as KA-ZAR  and his revived love, SHANNA THE SHE-DEVIL, and his Saber-Tooth Cat, ZABU, go on the hunt in New York City for his brother, Parnival Plunder, and for the reason he tried to kill KA-ZAR!  In issue #5, THE RHINO, revitalized by Parnival Plunder, attacks KA-ZAR and Shanna at a party at the Museum of Natural History!
