There was usually a single transparency or proof to each book, which is considered “production art.” As the industry became more dependent on the computerization of artwork, production art for comics became non-existent. Today comics are created on computers, eliminating the rare and amazing in-house production pieces from the masters of comic art. There are discussions on online “fakes” being made for profit. It is my assumption that anything could be “faked” if someone wanted to bad enough. However I don’t see any reason to fake relatively low cost production art as it would cost more in materials and time than it’s worth, faking artwork from a famous artist would bring a much higher return! I have never seen anything that looked like a fake and if I ever do I certainly won’t be selling it.
