Item Description
_'JUST IMAGINE . . ' _was a series of one-shots published by DC Comics at the dawn of the 21st century. It was the first work for DC Comics by Stan Lee, legendary co-creator of many of Marvel Comics most popular characters, in which he re-imagined the DC superheroes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern and the Flash. As an in-joke, Lee changed several of the civilian names of most of the new superheroes to alliterative ones, in reference to Lee's tendency to use them for his Marvel Comics characters (Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, Sue Storm, etc.).In each of the 'JUST IMAGINE . . ' issues, Lee worked with a prominent DC artist with an attachment to the characters -- here it was Jerry Ordway. Together, they brought the revised Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash (now a woman named Mary Maxwell!) and Green Lantern characters together in an effort to defeat the Reverend Dominic Darrk, who is trying to summon a being called CRISIS to the Earth so that he can take over the planet. To this end, he creates some henchmen in the form of a new Doom Patrol. But Darrk's son, a young boy named Adam Strange, notifies the five heroes of Darrk's intentions, and they come together. Darrk, beaten, kills his son and then flees, bluffed into doing so by Green Lantern. As a tribute to young Strange, the heroes officially incorporate as the JUSTICE LEAGUE.
This big, square-bound 52-page issue is beautifully printed and contains an explanatory foreword by Stan Lee. There is typical Stan Lee angst mingled with action, and Ordway's art is at the top of his game! The back cover shows a different artist's take on the 5 main characters - by Adam Hughes!
This is a near pristine copy and can be yours for just HALF of what Overstreet suggests, making this the most affordable copy (combined with our always-L•O•W shipping) to be found here on HipComic!
