Here's the scion of Asgard, the MIGHTY THOR, appearing just a year after his debut in issue #82 in this science fiction/fantasy anthology comic, JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY, and three years before the God of Thunder gets his own self-titled comic, with THOR #126.

In "The Lava Man!", written by Stan Lee and with dynamic action art from Jack Kirby, THOR battles the LAVA MAN, a monster brought to the surface by LOKI, and who claims all the dry surfaces of Earth for his underground people. Also, ODIN forbids THOR to love Jane Foster, leading to her leaving her job as Dr. Blake's nurse.

Jack Kirby also illustrates in this issue, the very first installment of the 5-page TALES OF ASGARD back-up feature that continued for many years. JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #97 also includes two other Science Fiction stories (one of which is a text piece).

This 61-year old copy of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #97 is in pretty nice condition - no tears, bent corners, pieces missing or excessive toning -- but a general worn feeling from years of being read and enjoyed. There is a very tiny date stamp on the back cover. We'll call this a 4.5 VG+ which Overstreet values at $135 -- we, however, are going to make this issue a bargain for THORists at just $105. . with FREE SHIPPING!
