Initially a Horror comics anthology, JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY changed over to Giant-Monster and Science Fiction stories in the late 1950s. Then, with issue #83 in 1962, there was a cataclysm in the MARVEL Universe!

It was the coming of THOR, the Jack Kirby-created superhero with roots in the pantheon of ancient Norse gods!

Here in the 7th appearance of THOR, Stan Lee scripts the 13-page lead story, "The Thunder God and the Thug!", poerfully illustrated by Jack

In the 13-page lead story, "The Thunder God and The Thug!". In it, Dr. Donald Blake has to protect his THGOR secret identity from prying eyes, lay down his hammer to protect love Jane Foster, call telepathically on his father, ODIN, for Divine Intervention, and collar a mob thug and his goons -- all after lunch!

Jack Kirby draws all the action with customary power and finesse, •••• devotes a page to a retelling of how he created THOR, and how the Norse god became a presence on Earth!

There is also a two-page text story, as well as two additional 5-page tales - one drawn by STEVE DITKO!

This is a nice copy of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #89 - it has obviously been read and enjoyed over its 61 year life and has small stress lines on its covers. There is a mild subscription fold, some staining in the title lettering, and a tiny 1/8" tear at the cover's edge. But there is less-than-normal toning for a 61-year-old comic and the artwork is unmarred, and has beautifully registered color.

These all contribute to a conservative grading of 4.5 VG+ for which Overstreet suggests a price of $352.00! We're going to make this early key issue affordable for THORists at just $260 . . with FREE SHIPPING!
