Here's the scion of Asgard, the MIGHTY THOR, appearing just three years after his debut in this science fiction/fantasy anthology comic, JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY, and less than one year before the God of Thunder gets his own self-titled comic, with THOR #126.

In "To Kill a Thunder God!", written by Stan Lee and with dynamic action art from Jack Kirby, THOR seaches for the Norn Stones in Vietnam where acruel hunter, aided from afar by LOKI, shoots THOR with an anesthetic projectile and brings him down. The hunter then discovers the hidden temple of the DESTROYER. When the hunter's consciousness enters the DESTROYER, it awakens and engages THOR in battle (in the first of many appearances in THOR, as one of his main antagonists!).

LOKI realizes he has made a mistake-- the DESTROYER is too powerful! He tries to warn ODIN, but this is the day of the ODINSLEEP (in its first mention anywhere in the THOR canon) and he may not be disturbed. The gods throw LOKI into the "Dungeon of No Escape" and the DESTROYER fires a bolt of elemental force at THOR which will surely kill him!

Jack Kirby also illustrates the TALES OF ASGARD back-up feature, "The Crimson Hand!" - a magic glove that forces people to tell the truth!

This 60-year old copy of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #118 is in pretty nice condition - no tears, bent corners, or excessive toning -- but there is a tiny piece out of the front cover at the top edge as wll as creases in the bottom right corner, and some unobtrusive handwriting on the splash page.

We'll call this a 4.0 VG which The Overstreet Price Guide values at $66 -- we however are going to make this issue a bargain for THORists at just $54 - the best value for this issue you'll find on HipComic!
