HELLBOY: SEED OF DESTRUCTION was the very first HELLBOY comic mini-series published by Dark Horse Comics, in early 1994. It was conceived and illustrated by Mike Mignola and scripted by John Byrne. The comic served as the basis for the 2004 film _'HELLBOY', _directed by Guillermo Del Toro.

The tale begins in 1944 in East Bromwich, England, where members of the British Paranormal Society have gathered at church ruins where a demon child appears in an explosion of flame! He is dubbed "Hellboy", and little of his tale is revealed until 50 years later, when Frogs swarm into the office of HELLBOY's guardian, killing him, and leading to HELLBOY battling and killing a vicious froglike beast. He then calls the head office of the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense.

In issue #2, HELLBOY learns more about the Arctic expedition of his deceased guardian, and meets two fellow BPRD Agents -- the pyrokinetic Liz Sherman, and amphibious humanoid Abe Sapien. The trio interviews a family matriarch, after which Abe investigates underwater, Liz disappears, and Hellboy battles another frog creature before being confronted by Rasputin!

In #3, Rasputin tells HELLBOY of how, after his reported death, he was eventually approached by the Nazis and collaborated on Project Ragna Rok, bringing HELLBOY into the world and retiring again until he heard the voices of the Ogdru-Jahad calling him to the Arctic.

The wild tale wraps up in #4, as Liz's energy is drained by Rasputin to free the Ogdru-Jaha. HELLBOY battles the frog creature's numbing hold on him and the assault on the Seven Beasts' tombs is incredulously monitored by an alien race! Abe, spurred on by an empowering spirit, mortally wounds Rasputin, and Liz's power proves too much for him to contain. It then falls to HELLBOY to face the Wizard in final battle!

Throughout the four issues you also get the terrific back-up feature, MONKEYMAN and O'BRIEN, the tale of an adventuring 7-ft tall woman and her 10-ft tall Gorilla companion from another dimension, with amazing artwork by Art Adams!

These four issues are in near-pristine condition. Lots of exciting reading and Mignola's moody artwork! Overstreet values the complete mini-series in 9.0 VF/NM condition at $85 . . but we'll accept a paranormal bargain price of $72, plus our shipping costs that are hauntingly LOW!!
