Here is the very first issue of HAWKMAN's own title after hundreds of appearances in DC titles, dating all the way back to his first appearance in _Flash Comics_ #1 in 1940. When DC editor Julius Schwartz decided to resurrect many Golden Age heroes in the 1960s, he called on early HAWKMAN creator Gardner Fox to bring the Thanagarian back to newsstands under his own title!

Here is HAWKMAN #1, with two great stories from Gardner Fox - in "Rivalry of the Winged Wonders!", Murphy Anderson illustrates the story of Katar Hol and his love, Shayera, returning to their home planet of Thanagar where they make an official report to their chief about their work on Earth. They recount how they recently competed to catch a jewel thief: Hawkman using Earth police methods and Hawkgirl using Thanagarian methods.

In the second tale, "Master of the Sky-Weapons!", Anderson dynamically illustrates Fox's cover story of an ancient Mayan chief who was taken by aliens in antiquity and recently returned to Earth as an immortal with fantastic alien weapons! Now Hawkman and Hawkgirl must stop him.
