'H. R. PUFNSTUF was a Saturday morning children's TV series in the late 1960s and early '70s produced by Sid and Marty Krofft for NBC. It was the first Krofft live-action, life-sized-puppet program (not including their previous work with Hanna-Barbera's 'The Banana Splits') and hugely popular. WESTERN Publishing (under both its GOLD KEY and WHITMAN imprints) took notice of its resonance with both kids and wiser teens and published 8 issues October 1970 and July 1972.

Here is that last issue - #8 - with the 'photo montage cover' featured on all issues. Inside are two stories with the cast of the TV show illustrated by comic strip artist Roger Armstrong and scripted by long-time Disney writer, Don Christensen.

"The Trojan Horse Chicken" tells of Witchie Poo's attempt to steal the Magic Flute with the aid of Backward Berries. But Jimmy, with the help of Pufnstuf and Norse god Thor, infiltrates the witch's castle in a giant chicken suit and saves the day!

In "Witch Switch", Jimmy and Pufnstuf again tangle with Witchie-Poo - who this time is aided and abetted by Boss Witch! It's all wild and fun!
