'This was originated by Arnold Drake in Marvel Super-Heroes 18 in 1968 where four rebels pool resources to fight for the Solar System after a 31st century invasion. There were later guest appearances in The Defenders and The Avengers spliced by their own feature in Marvel Presents in the 1970s. The 31st century boys are Charlie 27, a rotund, bullish native of the moons of Jupiter; Martinex, a crystalline scientist from Pluto. Vance Astro who is a thousand year old Earthman thanks to a space voyage made in suspended animation and a sail-headed bowman from Proxima Centauri named Yondu. Defenders 26-29 added the literally flame-haired Nikki from Mercury and the godlike Starhawik who is a cataclysmic amalgam of a coulple from Arcturus named Stakar and Aleta (conveniently split apart in 3). The Guardians patrol the galaxy in their starship Captain America (later replaced by the Icarus), and have a headquarters of sorts on the planet Klautu, which is run by Mainframe, a computer intelligence formerly known as The Vision. The basic premise for the series is that the super-beings in the current Marvel Universe would profoundly affect the future.
