Item Description
Here’s a neat collection of the first ten issues of THE FLASH in which GREEN LANTERN appeared in back-up stories after the cancellation of his own series with issue #89 in 1972.The first three of these ten issues continued NEAL ADAMS’ and DENNY O’NEIL’s popular story arc of GL and GREEN ARROW together as ‘Hard Traveling Heroes’ exploring injustice and social ills in America. After ADAMS’ trio of issues to start off the back-up appearances, DICK GIORDANO took over the art chores and continued in the same vein of excellence!
These back-up stories featuring GREEN LANTERN continued for a total of 24 issues, with GL occasionally appearing alongside his longtime friend Barry Allen/The FLASH on book-length adventures. Two of those are included in this 10-issue set: in #222, in “The Heart That Saved the World!”, Weather Wizard and Sinestro team up against the RED and GREEN HEROES ( and get a walloping!), and in #225 you get “Green Lantern, Master Criminal of the 25th Century!”, in which a weird alien horse from the future starts to destroy the Earth in the present, and FLASH and GL travel to the future to team up with Professor Zoom to try to stop it. Both stories were illustrated by the team of Irv Novick and Dick Giordano.
After his work in issues #217-219, Neal Adams returns in #226 to pencil “The Powerless Power Ring!”
Writers on the FLASH feature in these issues included Len Wein and Cary Bates, and illustrations by a roster of great artists like Nick Cardy (on covers), Irv Novick, Frank McLaughlin, and Joe Giella. Denny O'Neil wrote all of the GREEN LANTERN back-up stories.
GREEN LANTERN took a one-month hiatus after being the back-up for FLASH in issue #241, and then returned in his own title again with GREEN LANTERN #90 in 1976.
These ten copies from 50 years ago are in great shape, some a little better than others, but all in highly collectable condition, with strong bindings, supple pages, and good color. They range from 6.0 FN to 8.0 VF, but we’ll conservatively call the whole group a 6.0 FN. As such Overstreet values these 10 issues at $108! But we’re offering them all for just $82 - 25% off! - with the lowest shipping cost that you’ll find anywhere!
