Item Description
Issue #78 of GREEN LANTERN, just 3 issues past the milestone issue #75 that brought social realism to the DC Universe, Denny O'Neill once again delivers a story that resonates with the times, dealing with injustices and inequalities in American society that may have been previously beneath the notice of a galaxy-spanning hero like GREEN LANTERN, but are important and enraging to the more grounded GREEN ARROW. They make a perfect team!In "A Kind of Loving, A Way of Death!", Hal Jordan and Oliver Queen find themselves in Washington State as they traverse the U.S., seeking to learn about Society's ills and how they might right them. Meanwhile, Dinah Lance is not far off, on a motorcycle journey of her own, when a group of thugs overpower her and steal her motorcycle. BLACK CANARY is later found by mind-controlling cult leader Joshua and taken in.
When GREEN LANTERN and GREEN ARROW encounter the thugs later and recognize BLACK CANARY's motorcycle, they set off in search of their friend. Though BLACK CANARY initially refuses to leave the cult, when Joshua orders her to shoot GREEN ARROW, her mind won't let her, and she breaks free from Joshua's control.
(At the time of this issue's publication, BLACK CANARY believed that she was the widow of LARRY LANCE and a former member of Earth Two's Justice Society of America. However, it was revealed in _'Justice League of America #220' _that this BLACK CANARY was actually the daughter of the original! She had mystically-transferred memories of her mother and had no knowledge of her own identity.)
Neal Adams provides the perfect illustrations for everyone's frustrations with society's ills.
This is a great-looking 52-year old GREEN LANTERN -- no creases, tears, pieces missing, or abnormal toning. The binding is strong, and the colors are bright! Only a corner crease on the back cover prevents this copy from grading higher. We conservatively give this a 7.0 FN/VF. . . which Overstreet values at $49 . . . but we're pricing it at just $34 . . with our always-L•O•W shipping!
In Brightest Day . . get the best of O'Neill and Adams in one terrific bargain, or you'll find yourself . . In Blackest Night!
