Item Description
We're offering two GREEN LANTERN issues from 1966 that both carry a rare DC continued-storyline from one issue to the next. John Broome's story is beautifully and dynamically illustrated by the incredible Gil Kane and inked with the gorgeously precise lines of Sid Greene! The two-parter tale of 'GREEN LANTERN IS DEAD!' probably didn't fool any devoted reader of these two issues in 1966, but they make for a great, wide-ranging adventure, where even a Guardian will cry! :o)Issue #46 actually contains TWO GL stories, the first being the earthbound story "The Jailing of Hal Jordan" - one of the typical Gardner Fox tough guy/hoodlum stories with GL going after small-time crooks that the police should be catching. But the second story, "The End Of A Gladiator", finds the Guardians bringing Hal Jordan's body to OA after he appears to be killed in a battle with Dr. Polaris, while using his ring's power reserve to save Tom Kalmaku rather than himself. All 3600 Lanterns are there to grieve their fallen comrade.
But things look much better in issue #47 - as you knew they would - in the story "Green Lantern Lives Again!". Hal's lifeless body disappears from OA, and ends up in the 58th Century where he must help stop a Red Virus. When he finally gets sent back home, he battles Dr. Polaris and saves Tom. Happy happy ending!
Gil Kane even provides a great centerfold poster of Hal Jordan in costume and action pose, entitled "Best Power Ring Wishes, Green Lantern!"
These are two fairly good Silver Age GREEN LANTERN copies -- #46 is in better shape, with a strong binding and cover gloss. Issue #45 has had a bit rougher time over the past 55 years - the cover has multiple stress lines, a bit of rust that has migrated from the staples, and a semi-circular water stain. Both are perfect 'reading copies'. We'll conservatively grade the earlier copy a 4.0 VG, and the second, a 3.0 GD/VG . . . and together they average out to a 3.5 VG-. . . which Overstreet values at $16.00 . . . but we'll beam them both to you for $11.00 . . coupled with our always-L•O•W shipping!
You'll just DIE if you let this bargain get away!
