The somewhat satirical and comedic GREAT LAKES AVENGERS first appeared in WEST COAST AVENGERS vol. 2 #46 created by JOHN BYRNE as a parody of the proliferation of superhero teams. The inaugural line-up included MR. IMMORTAL, DINAH SOAR, BIG BERTHA, FLATMAN and DOORMAN, and eventually went on to include others - most notably, the popular SQUIRREL GIRL!

Here are the first two issues of their debut 4-part mini-series, in which we learn the origins of several of the heroes . . . and the deaths of others! They even go on a recruiting campaign to replace fallen comrades!
