It's 'THE WORLD'S GREATEST COMIC MAGAZINE'!!! - - and issue #48 begins the introduction of two of THE WORLD"S GREATEST CHARACTERS : Galactus and The Silver Surfer!  It's the very first appearance and mention of the Planet Devourer and his herald! courtesy of the incredible imagination of Jack Kirby!

Continuing from the previous issue, Maximus fires his Atmo-Gun with the intent to destroy the human race! However, the gun fails and Maximus resorts to creating a negative zone around the Great Refuge that separates the Inhumans from the rest of the world. The Fantastic Four escape and head back to the Baxter Building. There they are visited by the Watcher who warns them of the coming of Galactus. The Watcher tried to hide the Earth from his herald, the Silver Surfer, but was unsuccessful. The Surfer arrives and summons his master. 

"My journey is ended! This planet shall sustain me until it has been drained of all elemental life! So speaks Galactus!"  Have more chilling words ever been delivered to Earth??? 

This is a key issue in the Marvel canon and a real Kirby Extravaganza!  Our copy has obviously been read and enjoyed over the ensuing 54 years, but the binding is tight, and there is customary toning but no foxing.  The cover has some stress lines and the back cover corner is wrinkled, but there are no tears or pieces missing. Overstreet values a copy in 4.0 VG at $300 . . . but we can offer it to you at $270, with FREE SHIPPING!   Many lesser-quality copies in the marketplace are asking much higher prices.  We think you'll be happy - and proud - to own this key Marvel comic!
