In November 1996 fear gripped the entire world as the coming of the SUN-EATER was heralded, on his way to devour our sun and end all life! Nearly every superhero in the DC Universe responded in whatever way they could to stop the SUNEATER!

Unlike other crossover events published by DC, the conflict of _THE FINAL NIGHT _did not revolve around a conventional villain. It was primarily a story of survival that focused on the main characters performing disaster response, while attempting to prevent impending mass extinction of all life on Earth.

Here are two of the more than 25 issues that contributed to the massive storyline. In PARALLAX:EMERALD NIGHT, we come upon Hal Jordan as he tracks the cyborg Superman to the Source Wall and seemingly destroys him, just before Kyle Rayner appears to ask him to help re-ignite the burnt-out Sun. Before he decides to intervene, Parallax visits some of the important people from his former life as Hal Jordan. The storyline is notable in DC canon for the death and disputed redemption of Green Lantern Hal Jordan, whose character at the time had been transformed into the villainous Parallax.
