Item Description
Here's a nice, tight, beautifully-cared-for, 73-year-old Disney comic with 52 pages of story - including the lead story by the 'Good Duck Artist', Carl Barks! He did the cover too!In "The Pixilated Parrot", the rather annoying parrot with the obsessive counting habit, is discovered in a seaport by Huey, Dewey and Louie . . . but it was soon stolen from them by UNCLE SCROOGE! He began to use it to help him remember his safe combination, because the parrot memorized the numbers and repeat them back to him. However, burglars broke in that night, and hearing the parrot saying the combination, they stole much of SCROOGE's money!
When the parrot escaped out an open window, he sent DONALD and the boys to track him down because he still couldn't remember his safe combination. The parrot soon walked onto a ship, and when DONALD and his nephews followed him onto it, the ship left port for the tropics, where the parrot fell in love with another parrot. However, he deserted her when he found that she had eight children!
By then, SCROOGE had discovered that his money was missing. The foursome and the parrot went home, and found that the parrot had memorized the burglar's hideout address. In celebration of getting his money back, SCROOGE took his nephews and the parrot out to dinner. However, he still could not remember his vault combination, and so could not pay for dinner. The Ducks had to wash dishes to pay, while the parrot sat and counted them. It is likely that the parrot still lives in Duckburg, although he may have gone back to the tropics.
In the second story, "Pig in a Poke", illustrated by Disney animator Riley Thompson, Huey, Dewey, and Louie go to a farm to get an animal to show at the county fair. They're given a piglet named Hamlet, but the pig gets away and leads them (and DONALD) on a cross-country chase.
This is a beautiful copy of this popular issue - there is a minor bit of wear near the bottom of the front cover, but the pages are bright and colorful and free from the toning of most comics this age. It's one of Carl Barks' cleverest stories along with some of his funniest art! At 8.0 VF we think you will be very impressed with this comic, especially since we're pricing it WAY below Overstreet's valuation of $368 at just $290!
