Item Description
JACK KIRBY's arrival at DC was the biggest comics news of 1970! I remember the excitement and speculation about just what he would do with the established DC characters . . . or new ones born of his limitless imagination! Here is his debut issue of FOREVER PEOPLE, a breath of fresh air at DC as Kirby started painting his 'Fourth World' canvas. This issue is one of the key issues of the Bronze Age era, as it foreshadows the development of Kirby's "FOURTH WORLD" concept which introduced the New Gods and their nemesis DARKSEID into the DC mythology. The FOREVER PEOPLE are a group of young New Gods from New Genesis who were on a mission to oppose DARKSEID on Earth, and talked, dressed, and acted much like the flower children of the 1960s. In addition to the individual abilities and equipment of the members, the group can join together using the technology of a Mother Box to summon the powerful hero known as the INFINITY-MAN. The group travels by use of their Super-Cycle. This first issue also introduced the Boom Tube.
Here in issue #1 you get "In Search of a Dream!", written and illustrated by Kirby, and setting up the arrival on Earth of BIG BEAR, BEAUTIFUL DREAMER, MARK MOONRIDER, SERIFAN, and VYKIN THE BLACK, where they are treated by none other than SUPERMAN!
There is also a one-page interview with Kirby, written by Mark Wolfman!
This is a good-looking copy of one of the foundational issues of Kirby's 'Fourth World' opus. The binding is strong, the pages are supple and there are no real flaws that we can see. There is an overall moderate amount of toning. We conservatively grade it a 7.5 VF-.
Overstreet values this issue in this condition at $92. We're willing to part with it for just $83, with our always-L•O•W shipping - making it by far the most affordable of the 4 copies available here on HipComic!!
