KING COMICS, a short-lived comic book imprint of King Features Syndicate, was an attempt by King Features to publish comics of its own characters, rather than have them appear in other publishers' comics. A few King Comics titles were picked up from Gold Key Comics.

The line ran for only a year-and-a-half, with its series cover-dated from August 1966 to December 1967. The King Comics _Flash Gordon _title was well-received, winning three Alley Awards in 1966 and another in 1967. The series had distribution problems, and King Features tried to overcome this problem by selling its titles in special "King Paks" of e comics for 29¢, to variety stores and supermarkets. This tactic failed to gain more readers, and the King Comics line was discontinued.

But not before the 11 issues of the FLASH GORDON series made a big impact. With its gorgeous art by Al Williamson, paying homage to the great Alex Raymond who had so beautifully illustrated the comic strip that ran for nearly 60 years, it was KING's best seller.

Featured in this issue from the Spring of 1967 are two great stories of the gallant and heroic Earthman who finds himself in exotic locales in outer space! In "Flash Gordon and the God of the Beastmen", Flash, Dale and Zarkov are attacked by ape-like creatures when they venture into their territory, and in "The Terror of the Blue Death" he is instrumental in saving a King's life from a horrible sickness.

Additionally there is "Secret Agent X-9 and The Assassins of Power!" with more striking art, this time by Frank Springer!

So much beautiful and heroic art in one comic!

This is a pretty great-looking 53-year old Silver Age copy -- no creases, tears, pieces missing, or abnormal toning. The binding is strong, and the colors are bright.
