FANTASY MASTERPIECES was a Marvel reprint series that began in the mid-60s and showcased Captain America stories and other tales from Marvel's early years. The title was resurrected in December 1979 and reprinted SILVER SURFER stories exclusively, in their original order.

Here in issue #3 from early 1980 you get "The Power and the Prize!", wherein, in a fit of rage, the SILVER SURFER causes rampant terror on Earth, coming to the attention of MEPHISTO, Ruler of the Underworld! . Seeking the SURFER'S allegiance, MEPHISTO tempts him with his heart's desire, his true love SHALLA BAL, in order to corrupt him.
