FANTASTIC FOUR ROAST was the brainchild of cartoonist FRED HEMBECK, whose distinctive comedic interpretations of superheroes from both DC and MARVEL were constantly on display in the pages of The Comics Buyers' Guide through most of the 1980s.

Here, in 36 pages, he was able to corral nearly 40 MARVEL pencillers and inkers to portray the characters for which they were best known, in wildly satiric situations as they 'roasted' (in the manner of a string of television specials of the era) the quartet of heroes from 'The World's Greatest Comic Magazine'! It celebrated the 20th Anniversary of continuous publication of The FANTASTIC FOUR!

There was no complete index of the illustrators contained within the comic, but Fred Hembeck himself later offered up a complete scorecard of Who Drew Whom that can still be seen when searching the internet. Among the better-known names were John Byrne, John Romita Jr., John Buscema, and Frank Miller!

This is a great looking and solid copy of FANTASTIC FOUR ROAST #1, with a strong binding, a glossy cover, supple pages and bright color. The Overstreet Price Guide lists this issue in a grade of 8.0 VF at $5 . . . but we think $4 is a bit more reasonable!
