DETECTIVE COMICS, debuting in 1937, was the final publication of the entrepreneur Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson, whose comics company, National Allied Publications, would evolve into DC COMICS, one of the world's two largest comic book publishers, though long after its founder had left it. It was the birthplace, in issue #27, of Bruce Wayne and his alter ego of BATMAN!

Here, 30 years after his momentous debut, you get the Caped Crusader in "The House the Joker Built!" by Gardner Fox and Carmine Infantino (although the credits imply that creator Bob Kane did the artwork, that's not true!). The JOKER has been jealous of all the licensed merchandise that BATMAN has been recently selling and wants a 'JOKER Piece of the Pie': a lucrative way to widen his profile beyond Gotham City and make a financial 'killing' at the same time!

Thought to be wearing a JOKER Mask, he himself sets up a small bargain table of JOKER merchandise in a department store and creates a major ruckus! BATMAN and ROBIN are alerted and track him to his lair where a battle ensues, broadcast live on JOKER TV so fans can watch the Dynamic Duo fall to the Clown Prince of Crime.

But the battle resumes at a warehouse the facade of which is built to resemble the JOKER's face . . . but this time, things don't work out as well for the laughing one!

You also get a back-up story, "The Crooks That Captured Themselves!" written by Gardner Fox, illustrated by Sid Greene, and starring the ELONGATED MAN and his wife SUE!

This is a near-pristine 57-year old comic - the binding is strong, the colors are bright, the covers still have their gloss . . just in overall top-notch condition.
