DeETECTIVE COMICS, in the Golden Age, was an anthology comic featuring mainly Detective characters, both superhero and civilian. The longest-lasting character in Detective Comics was BATMAN; from the time of his debut (#27, May 1939), the Caped Crusader was almost always the star of the cover and lead story.

Here in issue #142 from the Spring of 1947, you get 4 great stories featuring some of the top-selling DC heroes of the time = BATMAN & ROBIN , THE BOY COMMANDOES and SLAM BRADLEY. plus ROBOTMAN . Artists represented were Dick Sprang, , the great Curt Swan, Jimmy Thompson, and others.

In the cover story, the RIDDLER returns from the "dead" (in only hos second appearance!) to continue his campaign of puzzle contests to baffle the police and the Dynamic Duo.

This is an obviously aged but 'enjoyed' copy of this 75-year-old comic book! It has cover problems that include being loose, and extensive previous dampness damage, both front and back. It continues onto the splash page. But the rest of the interior pages are well-bound, bright and colorful, with minimal toning and almost no foxing. It has seen better days, obviously, and we're grading it a 1.5 FR/GD. Overstreet grades this issue in this condition at $415! We're offering it for just $105 - a price you won't find elsewhere - even if there WAS another copy here on HipComic!
