Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera, creators and directors of the long-running 'TOM and JERRY' series of animated cartoons, needed something to do when MGM closed down their animation unit in 1954 after nearly 2 decades of masterminding the hit series of cat and mouse theatrical cartoons. They created RUFF AND REDDY as the first series of their new HANNA-BARBERA cartoon studio, making it one of the very first TV animated shows. It helped initiate 'Saturday Morning' cartoon line-ups on TV, debuting in December of 1957 on NBC with remarkably entertaining limited animation.

The show ran for 3 years, until the Spring of 1960. This is just the second comic book issue to star the Dog and Cat duo under the Dell Four Color banner, and it led to them getting their own Dell title 4 months later.

All 36 pages here feature the outstanding and appealing artwork of Harvey Eisenberg, who had been Hanna and Barbera's head of layout on the 'Tom and Jerry' cartoons. You get 7 RUFF AND REDDY stories of varying lengths, but all with terrific Eisenberg art and a load of chuckles!

This is a great copy of FOUR COLOR #981, with a strong binding, supple pages with good color and very little toning for its 74 years! The only real flaw we see is a tiny loose bit at the top corner of the front cover. We'll call it an 8.0 VF, for which Overstreet suggests a price tag of $48 . . . but we'd rather suggest that just $30 will let you enjoy this great issue!
