Item Description
DAREDEVIL was created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, and first appeared in DAREDEVIL #1 (1964). The son of boxer 'Battlin' Jack' Murdock, Matt Murdock grew up in the relative poverty of Hell's Kitchen with much reverence for his father, who constantly pressed him to study instead of playing with his friends. In turn, they taunted him with the facetious nickname DAREDEVIL since he always went back to studying and secretly training in his father's gym instead of doing things with them.Matt was blinded by toxic chemicals, but learned to hone his physical skills and other senses to the point where he was a fearsome force for good in his neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, even after opening a law firm there. Here in issues #159 and #160, you get famed artist/writer FRANK MILLER's second and third scripts and pencils on the series, following writing stints by Marv Wolfman, Jim Shooter and Roger McKenzie. Miller made the character his own, jettisoning some long-accepted canon background stories, and introducing a fresh take on the character.
In "Marked for Murder!", Miller and his inker, Klaus Janson, tell how villain Eric Slaughter gathers his men to take out DAREDEVIL, and BULLSEYE decides to strike at DAREDEVIL through the BLACK WIDOW.
* At the end of this story is a one page feature entitled "Daredevil's Billy Club". It provides information on the crimefighter's notorious weapon. For the first time, more emphasis is given on the ability of Daredevil to use his weapon as a projectile.
Matt and Heather visit her father's grave in #160's "In The Hands of Bullseye!" Meanwhile BULLSEYE captures BLACK WIDOW to flush DAREDEVIL out.
These are two nice copies of late-70s DAREDEVILs, with strong bindings and minimal toning of their 44-year old pages! There is a bit of a worn feel to them, there is a faint date stamp at the top of the front cover, but no tears, creases or pieces missing . . and that leads us to grading these an aggregate 6.0 FN. The Overstreet Guide feels $27 is appropriate for these 2 issues at this grade -- but we feel $19 plus our L•O•W shipping is even MORE appropriate!
••• And remember - there is no further postage charge if you buy additional items, so load up on some of our other Silver Age Marvels, if that's your thing!
