Item Description

DAREDEVIL was created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, and first appeared in DAREDEVIL #1 (1964). The son of boxer 'Battlin' Jack' Murdock, Matt Murdock grew up in the relative poverty of Hell's Kitchen with much reverence for his father, who constantly pressed him to study instead of playing with his friends. In turn, they taunted him with the facetious nickname DAREDEVIL since he always went back to studying and secretly training in his father's gym instead of doing things with them.

Matt was blinded by toxic chemicals, but learned to hone his physical skills and other senses to the point where he was a fearsome force for good in his neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, even after opening a law firm there. 

Here in issue #14, you get "If This Be Justice . . !", a continuation of DAREDEVIL and KA-ZAR's first meeting (this 'new' KA-ZAR first appeared in Marvel's X-MEN #10) and their run -in with THE PLUNDERER.

DAREDEVIL and KA-ZAR have been brought to England by THE PLUNDERER who seeks to use his brother's half of a medallion of metal-destroying ore to gain access to the family inheritance.

Through much struggle, DAREDEVIL is forced to retreat, KA-ZAR is accused of a murder, and THE PLUNDERER gets half of the medallion! He then creates a powerful weapon as well as a new costume. Meanwhile, in the States, Karen and Foggy get a letter from Matt informing them that he's alive and asks them for help in proving KA-ZAR's innocence, and they head to England to meet him.

By now, THE PLUNDERER has gathered a new army of minions. But DAREDEVIL manages to infiltrate THE PLUNDERER's submarine and is able to attack the villain. Meanwhile, KA-ZAR is brought to court for murder charges, and as Foggy and Karen watch, he goes crazy and attacks the courtroom before being subdued. But all turns out for the best, as you have probably guessed!

Story scripted by Stan Lee. This is John Romita Sr.'s first penciling assignment at Marvel and it turned out beautifully!

This is a well-preserved copy of DAREDEVIL #14 with a strong binding and minimal toning of its 56-year old pages! There is a faint date stamp on the cover, a bent corner, an edge nick, a bit of handwriting on the title page, and the final page is detached but present. It still has good eye-appeal and good color and that leads us to grading this a 5.0 VG/FN. The Overstreet Guide feels $25 is appropriate -- we feel $15 plus our L•O•W shipping is even MORE appropriate!
