Item Description
Here's the nicest copy of the landmark COO COO COMICS #1 that you're ever liable to see!COO COO COMICS, debuting in 1942 from the ACG/Better/Nedor/Pines publishing conglomerate, set the stage for the avalanche of Funny Animal comics of the 1940s. Titles like BARNYARD, HA HA, GOOFY, HAPPY and others emerged quickly as animation studio cartoonists found the chance to express themselves - and get paid for it! - by moonlighting for these publishers.
And since they spent their days drawing Funny Animal antics, these comic book opportunities were right up their alley!
Here in the 68-page premier issue of COO COO COMICS you get 10 full stories, 4 text pieces and a couple of activity pages. Characters having wacky adventures include BUSTER BRUIN (by Harvey Eisenberg, the incredible MGM artist that made TOM & JERRY so appealing), S'NO USE and the SEVEN DOPES, SNIFFY the WONDER DOG, KID KANGAROO, and - famously - SUPERMOUSE in his comic book debut!
"SUPERMOUSE in His First Adventure" details how two scientists create a liquid distillate of lightning, thunder, concentrated sun atoms, and a teaspoon of sugar. Later, a mouse dunks his cheese in the liquid before eating it and discovers he can fly and has super-strength. He decides to dedicate his powers to a war on crime -- and cats! He turns on the radio and learns that a wealthy young heiress named Minerva Churchmouse has been kidnapped and is being held for $400,000,000.17. Supermouse ultimately captures the gang and recovers the money!
(The Terrytoons character of MIGHTY MOUSE was originally named SUPERMOUSE in his first cartoon, but his name was changed when it was learned ACG had copyrighted the SUPERMOUSE name months earlier!)
This is an incredibly nice copy of COO COO COMICS #1, and in no way looks true to its age of over 81 years! The binding is strong, the pages are clean and colorful, there is only the tiniest hint of toning, and no tears creases or pieces missing! Genuinely a 7.0 FN/VF!
Overstreet lists a value of $305 for this landmark issue. Golden Age Funny Animal collectors will be happy to see our price of just $210!
And it comes with SUPER-FREE Shipping! You can call us COO COO!
