Howard's tales of the Cimmerian, and the evocative art of illustrator Barry Smith in the first 24 issues.  But here, in issues #25 and #26, you get the changing of the Old Guard, as John Buscema takes over the penciling duties from Barry Windsor-Smith, and starts his amazing and unbroken string of illustrating 166 consecutive issues!!

Inside the cover by Gil Kane, issue #25 gives us "The Mirrors of Kharam Akkad!", arcane and supernatural items that predict the future, and reveal the imminent death of the high priest Kharam Akkad at the hands of CONAN!  The origin of these mystic mirrors, once owned by KING KULL, is told in a 2-page flashback, illustrated by John Severin!

Issue #26 further displays the powerful team of illustrators John Buscema and Ernie Chua, who would together chronicle CONAN's adventures for the next 14 years!  "The Hour of the Griffin!" is a wonderfully typical CONAN story, with warring cities, royalty in peril, occult and devious religious figures, and dangerous monsters

Buscema's pencils on CONAN are some of his finest work, developing an exciting new heroic adventure story style within the Sword and Sorcery genre, "producing stories which are a high-water mark in terms of comic book action, movement, power, expression, mood, and dynamics!"
