Item Description
CONAN THE BARBARIAN was rolling along in early 1972 as one of MARVEL's top-selling titles, on the strength of Roy Thomas' adaptations of Robert E. Howard's tales of the Cimmerian, and the evocative art of illustrator Barry Smith. Refusing to rest on their laurels, the duo adapted the popular albino antihero of Michael Moorcock's sword and sorcery novels to become a memorable antagonist/companion to CONAN in these two issues!ELRIC made his American comic debut here in "A Sword Called Stormbringer", plotted by Moorcock and written by Thomas. CONAN saves the life of ZEPHRA - daughter of a wizard CONAN once aided. Together they must battle an otherworldly entity . . but first meet up with ELRIC of MELNIBONÉ who was inadvertently transported to CONAN's world with the evil sorcerers and their city. Not trusting each other, the Barbarian and the albino mage first fight each other, but eventually realize they are both on the same mission to defeat the sorcerers.
In the next issue, "The Green Empress of Melniboné", CONAN and ELRIC endure an uneasy truce while they ride to the sunken city known as Yagala. Once there they have to face Xiombarg, Prince Gaynor the Damned, Kulan-Gath and TERHALI, the Green Empress of Melniboné. Their combined magic and sorcery are powerful, but ELRIC and CONAN gain the upper hand . . however ZEPHRA dies while destroying the EMPRESS TERHALI. ELRIC departs as his city returns to its own dimension, and CONAN returns ZEPHRA's body to her father.
These two comics are considered early key issues in the saga of CONAN . . and Overstreet recognizes that in valuing 8.0 VF copies each at $40. $80 for the pair. But is that what we ask? NAY! We seek merely $50 in coin . . and a way to stop speaking like a Hyperborean merchant!! :o) Our L•O•W shipping makes this the best CONAN/ELRIC deal on HipComic -- don't miss out!
