CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED was an American comic book/magazine series featuring adaptations of literary classics such as Moby-Dick, Hamlet, and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Created by Albert Kanter, the series began publication by the Gilberton Company in 1941, and finished its first run in 1969, producing 169 issues.

Here in issue #43 from November 1947 is the CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED version of 'GREAT EXPECTATIONS', by Charles Dickens, who had 5 of his famous novels adapted in CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED. 'GREAT EXPECTATIONS' was the thirteenth novel by Dickens and his penultimate completed novel.It tells of the education of an orphan nicknamed PIP. The novel was first published as a serial in Dickens's weekly periodical from 1 December 1860 to August 1861.

This big 60-page comic was illustrated by Henry Kiefer in nice detail, and with period accuracy.

Also included are text pieces about Charles Dickens himself, The Navajo, and Albert Einstein.

This copy has pretty obviously been enjoyed carefully over its 87-year life -- but is in remarkably nice shape for its age.The binding is solid, and the pages have relatively little toning. Pages are supple, with no tears, and the color is good. We'll grade this at a 4.0 VG, which Overstreet values at $188 for this first printing of issue #43 . . . but we'll make acquiring this comic more affordable for you at only $105 . . . accompanied by our 'GREAT' FREE SHIPPING!
