CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED was an American comic book/magazine series featuring adaptations of literary classics such as Moby-Dick, Hamlet, and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Created by Albert Kanter, the series began publication by the Gilberton Company in 1941, and finished its first run in 1969, producing 169 issues.

Here in issue #41 from September 1947 is the CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED version of 'Twenty Years After', Alexandre Dumas' sequel to his more famous novel, 'The Three Musketeers' ( the adaptation of which was CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED's debut issue in 1941). It tells of Musketeer D'ARTAGNAN's efforts to reunite the Three Musketeers to defend Queen Anne of Austria, and the young Louis XIV.

This big 60-page comic was illustrated by Robert C. Burns in detail, and with period accuracy, and adapted from the novel by writer Harry Miller.

Also included are text pieces about Alexandre Dumas, and Alexis Carrel, a 'Pioneer of Science'.

This copy has pretty obviously been enjoyed carefully over its 86 year life -- the cover has a mild subscription fold, and the back cover and a few pages have slightly rough edges. A bit of rust has migrated from one of the staples to the cover edge. But the binding is solid, and the pages have relatively little toning for their age. Pages are supple, with no tears, and the color is good. We'll grade this at a 5.0 VG/FN which Overstreet values at $97 for this first printing of issue #41 . . . but we'll make acquiring this comic more affordable for you at only $75 with complimentary FREE SHIPPING!!
