Admittedly in pretty bad shape, this copy of JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #88 from 1963 provides an inexpensive way to get both Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko art in one issue!! Here is only the fifth issue to showcase THOR after his first appearance in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #83!

This JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY issue actually includes three full stories, but it is always the continuing THOR saga that is best remembered in this title. Thor's 13-page story, "The Vengeance of Loki", tells us Loki discovers Thor’s secret identity and separates him from his hammer, forcing him to remain a human. Loki then torments humanity, but Dr. Blake tricks him into allowing him to regain the hammer and become Thor, defeating Loki and returning him to Asgard.

There is also a 5-page story by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko entitled "Behind Locked Doors". In it, a Soviet spy attempts to get American factory workers to strike by acts of sabotage and by convincing them that working conditions are unsafe. He doesn't reckon with the machines, which are "Made in America", coming to life with a mind of their own and taking matters in their own hands in order to deal with him!

Decidedly on the ratty side, with a cover doctored with tape to keep it intact, a chunk of cover missing at front left, and ragged edges, it still has unaffected art pages. There is a small "100" pencil notation on the back cover. It's never going to win any beauty contests, but it's a chance for THOR-lovers to get this issue inexpensively! Overstreet's lowest value for this key issue (at 2.0 GD) is $82!! We'll call this a 1.5 FR/GD and knock the price way down to only $23! - with L O W SHIPPING! Own a little bit of comic history!
