Before there was CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED . . there was CLASSIC COMICS!

CLASSIC COMICS was published by the Gilberton Co. from 1941 to 1947 before changing its name to CLASSICS ILLUSTRATED. This issue - #33 - was published just two months before the name and format change! (The inside of the front cover actually explains why they are changing their name!) It is the First Printing of #33 and is full and complete.

This big 62-page comic presents two of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's better-known SHERLOCK HOLMES mysteries - 'A Study in Scarlet' and 'Hound of the Baskervilles' - both illustrated by H.C. Kiefer.

Also included are 4 educational one-page text pieces about Doyle, the inventor of Gaslight lamps, Abraham Lincoln and 'Ties Across the Seas'.

This copy has pretty obviously been enjoyed many times over its 74 year life -- the cover has a subscription fold , and the back cover has a 1 1/2" tear at the bottom. But the binding is solid, and the pages have relatively little toning for their age. Pages are supple, with no tears, and the color is good. We'll grade this at a 3.0 GD/VG which Overstreet values at $198 for this first printing of issue #33 . . . but we'll make acquiring this comic ELEMENTARY, and price it at only $163 for you Holmes fans!
