CAPTAIN ATOM was created by writer Joe Gill and artist/co-writer Steve Ditko, and first appeared in SPACE ADVENTURES #33 under the Charlton imprint, in 1960. His atomic absorption powers and superhuman strength inspired the WATCHMEN character, DOCTOR MANHATTAN!

The Charlton Comics version of CAPTAIN ATOM was engineer ALLEN ADAM. He was a technician in a special experimental rocket when it accidentally launched with him trapped inside. Adam was atomized when the rocket exploded, however, he somehow gained superpowers that included the ability to reform his body. He was first outfitted in a red and yellow costume that was designed to shield people from the radiation of his nuclear powers. When he powered up, his hair changed to a silverish-white.

Here are three of the last issues of CAPTAIN ATOM'S Charlton incarnation, before he became a member of the DC superhero stable. All three issues contain an 18-page lead story written and drawn by Ditko pitting CAPTAIN ATOM against Punch and Jewelee (their first appearance), Nightshade and Ghost, and the Fiery-Icer (his first appearance too!).

Ditko also provided BLUE BEETLE stories in #85 and #86 . . . and in #87 a young Jim Aparo illustrates beautifully a tale of the Captain's cohort, NIGHTSHADE - "The Darling of Darkness"!!

You get 108 pages of great DITKO & Co. art (including the covers) for one low price! These are pretty nice copies, there are a few nicks and stress lines, #85 has a small tear in the front coverbut the spines are solid and the art looks good. We'll very conservatively grade them a joint 4.5 VG+, which Overstreet values at $36 for the trio . . . how about we agree on $20, plus our L•O•W $2.50 shipping, and NO charge for additional purchase shipping??!
