CAPTAIN ACTION was an action figure created in 1966, equipped with a wardrobe of costumes and facial masks allowing him to become Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Captain America, Aquaman, the Phantom, and Lone Ranger. He was the Ideal Toy Company's answer to Hasbro's G.I. Joe. DC Comics licensed the character from Ideal and published five issues of CAPTAIN ACTION in 1968, all illustrated by Gil Kane or Wally Wood . . and sometimes BOTH!

Issue #3, written by Kane and illustrated by Kane and Wood, is entitled ". . . And Evil This Way Comes" which introduces DR. EVIL as the continuing nemesis for CAPTAIN ACTION . . and he turns out to be the father of CAPTAIN ACTION's recently deceased wife! The story concerns an unusual earthquake in San Francisco that fuse some of CA's powers, gives other powers to his son (who then becomes ACTION BOY) and is the cause of his father-in-law becoming DR. EVIL!

In #4, with both pencils and inks by Kane, as well as the script, "Evil at Dead World's End" tells of DR. EVIL's attempts to persuade the beings of Alpha Centauri to help him take over the Earth!

And in #5, with Wood back inking Kane's pencils, you get "A Mind Divided!", tells of the secret diabolical life of one of ACTION BOY's best friends, and the sacrifice his friend makes to save America!

Surprisingly good stories . . and always-impressive artwork from Gil Kane!


This are well-preserved 55-year old Silver Age comics -- no creases, pieces missing, or abnormal toning. The bindings are strong, the colors are bright, and the covers are glossy! Issue #4 has a price sticker on the front cover and a couple of small tears at the tops of two interior pages. #5 has a bit of scuffing on the cover. We are very confidently grading this trio a 5.5 FN- . . . which Overstreet values at a combined $38 . . . but we're pricing the trio at just $25. . with our customary L•O•W shipping!
