Jeff Smith’s BONE burst upon the comic scene in 1991 and was immediately embraced as a unique and universally-appealing epic fantasy. It told the tale of the three BONE cousins - Fone, Phony and Smiley - as they escape a scandal in Boneville and find themselves in a vaguely medieval valley, where they get to know the inhabitants and share their adventures, as well as the dangers and threats to their peaceful existence.

Done in Smith’s beautifully cartoony pen and brush style, the black and white comic from Cartoon Books ran for a pre-planned 55 issues and said farewell in 2004. Over the course of its existence, it won ten Eisner Awards and eleven Harvey Awards!

Here is the very first printing of issue #1 in which we meet the three cousins, Ted the Bug, the Dragon, and their menacing/goofy adversaries, the Rat Creatures! Every panel is a delight!

This copy IS SIGNED BY JEFF SMITH ON THE COVER with a silver Sharpie, and has an added sketch by Smith inside the front cover!

This first printing of BONE #1 is in pristine condition. Overstreet gives a copy in 9.0 - 9.5 condition a sticker price of $976 - $1200 We think, with the artist’s signature, and the artist’s remarqué, this particular copy is worth $1020.00.
