Here's the debut issue of BARNYARD COMICS, delivering funny animal chuckles to war-time kids. It was the brainstorm of Richard Hughes and Ned Pines, who was the publisher of a raft of pulp magazines and paperback books starting in 1939. Through his artist-contacts, he was able to interest members of the New York Animation industry to try their hand at comic book work, moonlighting at home after a day at the studios producing cartoons like Fleischer/Famous Studios' 'Popeye' and Terrytoons' 'Mighty Mouse'.

Behind a lively cover by John C. Walworth are 7 delightful talking animal stories, plus 2 illustrated text pages. Characters like Torchy the Little Red Duck, Peter Pigg and Hetty Hep Cat were the creations of the artists themselves . . . and none of them survived past issue #3! 52 pages that will make you smile!

This is a beautiful, nicely tight, remarkably unblemished copy that we're conservatively grading at an 8.0 VF for this 77-year-old comic. Overstreet says $150 (which is pretty FUNNY for a Funny Animal Comic that lasted only 31 issues) . . but we say $108! And that's with FREE SHIPPING!
