The World's Mightiest Heroes got a face-lift in 1998 with the debut of Volume 3 of THE AVENGERS.  Then in 2001 starting with this issue, they got another fresh coat of paint, with a larger team, and a great new artist in the form of Britain's Alan Davis!  The Avengers roster now contained Triathlon, Warbird, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Wonder Man, Vision; Captain America, Wasp, Goliath, Firebird, Black Knight, Jack of Hearts, Iron Man, Thor, Quasar, and Photon!  Whew!  The line to use the bathroom must have been a long one!

Marvel's Kurt Busiek guides this team through another joint venture starting with #38's "Above and Beyond!", wherein The AVENGERS launch into a new offensive against the known super criminal element under a new direction from WASP and CAPTAIN AMERICA.  The VISION and WARBIRD go out on a date. YELLOWJACKET has kidnaped the real PYM and taken his place among the AVENGERS. Meanwhile, DIABLO has put into motion his latest schemes and has transformed the entire population of a small Greek town into HULK creatures!

The story continues in #39 with "CONDITION: GREEN!", when The AVENGERS arrive in Greece and do their best to contain the residents who seem to have all been changed into HULKS!. GOLIATH comes up with a plan to force the merger of these 'HULKS' to make them more manageable, but it fails and backfires on them. Meanwhile back at the AVENGERS mansion, DIABLO attacks and only SILVERCLAW stands in his way!
