Here's a reprint of the first GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY appearance in MARVEL SUPER-HEROES #18 from 6 years earlier. The history of this quartet of time-traveling heroes is interesting:

Roy Thomas has said, "Guardians of the Galaxy' started out as an idea of mine: about super-guerrillas fighting against Russians and Red Chinese who had taken over and divided the USA. I got a sort of general approval out of  Stan Lee and gave the idea to Arnold Drake, since I had not time to write and research it. Arnold went in for a conference with Stan, and Stan (maybe Arnold, too) decided to change it to an interplanetary situation. All the characters and situations in _Guardians_ were created by Arnold and/or Stan."  The team's first appearance_ was _written by Arnold Drake and penciled by GENE COLAN. Despite strong sales on this issue,  GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY would not appear again for over five years.

This team of  MAJOR VANCE ASTRO (later known as MAJOR VICTORY), an astronaut from 20th century Earth who spends a thousand years travelling to Alpha Centauri in suspended animation, MARTINEX T'NAGA, a crystalline being from Pluto; CAPTAIN CHARLIE-27, a soldier from Jupiter; and YONDU UDONTA, a blue-skinned "noble savage" from Centauri-IV (the fourth planet orbiting the star Alpha Centauri B). Each is apparently the last of their kind and they are forced to unite as a team against the actions of the BADOON, an alien race which attempts to conquer Earth's Solar System.

In this reprinted story, CHARLIE-27 returns from a six-month mission to discover that his home planet of Jupiter has been completely enslaved by the evil BADOON  He knows that he wouldn't stand a chance against them on his own, so he teleports to other worlds to find help. First, he joins forces with MARTINEX on the planet Pluto. Then together they travel to planet Earth, where VANCE ASTRO  nd the Centaurian YONDU have just escaped from BADOON forces themselves. When Vance and Yondu encounter Charlie-27 and Martinex, they briefly mistake them for more Badoon guards and a misunderstanding fight ensues. However, soon enough they realize that they are all fighting for the same side and a new super-team is born... the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.
